Big Bus, Big Ben, Admiralty Arch, Nelson’s Column, St. Paul’s Cathedral, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, and Thames River Cruise

We got up early again to have our free English breakfast. I had a cup of Cappuccino. The machine first filled my cup with 3/4 of milk, then added coffee to it. After that, I tried a cup of Espresso, which was very bitter and only filled 1/4 of my cup. I ate a lot for breakfast because I knew that we probably wouldn’t eat lunch on time.

Adventurer Jr. had a fever last night, he stayed at the hotel to recuperate.

We hopped on the first blue line Big Bus at 9 am and rode all the way to Buckingham Palace for changing of guard.

When the bus was passing St. Thomas Hospital, Florence Nightingale was mentioned. She revolutionized healthcare by creating a profession called nursing.

There were so many people outside of Buckingham Palace to see changing of guards. The road was barracked and every where we turned, there’s people. We couldn’t see anything. Finally around 12 noon we saw people in grey uniforms marching out.

Well, that wasn’t much fun. Then we rode the blue line Big Bus back to our hotel in Paddington to check on Adventurer Jr. The bus took us to the other side of the city.

After one hour and thirty minutes, we got off at the stop near our hotel. We bought some food at a nearby Burger King for £15.45 and some Lebanese food next to Burger King for £10.

After lunch, Adventurer Jr. felt good enough to go out in the afternoon with us. At three, we put more layers of clothes on, left our hotel and hopped on the blue line Big Bus again. We stayed in lower deck to keep us warm. And it was comfortable enough to take a little rest. We got off at Westminster Pier to catch our included boat ride. We walked to the upper open deck after getting on the boat. It’s a bit cold but the views were spectacular.

We planned to take Big Bus back to hotel, but none showed up after we’d waited for more than ten minutes. We waived to a taxi and paid £23 to get us to our hotel. We walked around our hotel looking for a place to have dinner. Finally, we decided to eat at Garfunkel’s.

I had Penne with green olives. The small sliced hot pepper added a little twist to it. It’s a very easy dish to cook at home. All in all, the food wasn’t so great. Total cost was £53 including tip.

Next in the series: British Museum, Eurostar to Paris, Hotel Du Louvre, and Le Thermidor
