Latin Week Five

We reviewed all the Latin phrases we’ve learned from previous weeks:

  1. tabula rasa – a clean slate
  2. alma mater – a dear mother
  3. post mortem – after death
  4. inter alia – among other things
  5. sine qua non – an indispensable condition
  6. persona non grata – an unacceptable person
  7. inter pares – between equals
  8. inter nos – between ourselves
  9. inter se – between themselves
  10. ultra vires – beyond one’s legal authority
  11. per capita – by individual, by head
  12. ex officio – by virtue of one’s office
  13. onus – burden
  14. ipso facto – by virtue of the fact itself
  15. re – concerning
  16. in toto – entirely
  17. ab initio – from the beginning
  18. primus inter pares – first among equals
  19. in perpetuum– forever
  20. de iure – from law, legal
  21. de facto – from the act
  22. a priori – from what is know
  23. magnum opus – great work
  24. pinxit – he/she painted it
  25. per se – in itself
  26. in memoriam – in memory of
  27. in situ – in place
  28. pro rata – in proportion
