Last day in Lost Wages

The Experience By this time, we were homesick and ready to leave Lost Wages. Our flight was around midnight. We negotiated a checkout time of 1 pm instead of 11 am because there’s nothing much one could do outdoors during the day. After we left the hotel, we drove to Chinatown. Since we were hungry and the temperature was 107ºF, it didn’t take us long to agree on a restaurant for lunch. After lunch, we took a quick look of … Continue reading >>

Lost Wages Strip

The Experience Today was going to be a slow day for a change of pace. We got up around 9 am, bought takeout from Jack in the Box a block away from our hotel for breakfast, and the kids played with their iPad and iPhone games in our air conditioned hotel room until our lunch. This hotel had a washer and dryer that customers could use for free to wash their clothes. We bought a small container of liquid laundry detergent … Continue reading >>

Hoover Dam, Nevada

The Experience The breakfast had scrambled eggs, sausages, hash browns, breads, pastries, cereal, milk, juice, tea, coffee, and fresh fruits. Finally, we got a decent hot English breakfast. That’s the best free breakfast we’ve had for this trip. This hotel had a hotel full of surprises. We were on the road again after breakfast. We passed Kingman Army Airfield Museum, which played a significant role in WWII. Thirty six thousand gunners were trained there. After about one hour of driving, we arrived … Continue reading >>

Visiting Zion National Park in Utah

The Experience We left the much hated hotel as soon as possible after eating free breakfast without any protein. Our destination was Zion National Park. It’s about two and half hours of drive. After we got out of Lost Wages, there’s nothing much to see except brown desert and desert plants. Then we saw buildings, palm trees, and greens. It’s the CasaBlanca Resort Casino in Nevada. Once we passed it, the scenery turned back to desert and cacti. After driving awhile, we saw red … Continue reading >>

A day in Lost Wages, Nevada

The Experience No one had a good sleep and everyone got up early in the morning. We ate bagels and drank orange juices provided by the hotel after our morning routine. I was expecting milk and boiled eggs for cheap protein, but even that was too much to ask. There was absolutely no protein provided for breakfast. It’s still very early, so we went to a little market next to our hotel to kill some time. Adventurer Jr. III liked … Continue reading >>

Starting the Trip

The Experience With much anticipation and preparation, we got our luggage ready in the morning, including buying bags of snacks to avoid paying high food prices on the airplanes and at the airports. We went to a buffet for brunch. Then we officially started our trip by driving to a Sheraton hotel near our airport and taking its free shuttle to the airport to reduce the parking fee. The American Airlines’ airplane departed on-time around 3:30 pm and we arrived at Dallas, TX after … Continue reading >>
